A charcoal-to-black quartzite crossed with white and grey veining — the dark stone people reach for when a black granite reads too flat and a black marble feels too fragile.

Quarried in Brazil, in the region that produces most of the world's exotic quartzites, and shipped to Melbourne as full slabs.
A deep charcoal to near-black background carrying white, grey and occasionally gold veining, from fine threading through to bold branching movement. Block variation is significant on this stone — some lots are quiet and almost uniformly dark, others are highly graphic. We carefully select and inspect each lot we buy, so make sure you also select what suits you best, rather than a name.
Islands and benchtops where a dark statement surface is wanted, splashbacks, bathroom vanities, bar tops, feature walls and fireplace surrounds. It is frequently specified as the dark counterpoint to pale joinery.
Seal on installation and periodically thereafter. Dark stone shows water marks and residue more readily than pale stone, so a pH-neutral cleaner and a dry buff make a visible difference. Avoid abrasive pads, which will dull a polished surface.
No — it is a quartzite, formed from sandstone under heat and pressure. It gets compared to black granite because of the colour, but the surface reads quite differently: granite is speckled and granular, where Negresco carries flowing white veins across a dark ground.
Dark polished stone of any kind shows water spotting and oils more than pale stone does. A honed or leather finish hides marks considerably better than polished, and those are the finishes we stock.
Considerably — Negresco varies between lots but slabs from the same lot are usually pretty consistent. If your project needs slabs that match across a run, we can usually supply sequential and vein matching from the same block.
Absolutely. As a quartzite it is hard and resists etching far better than a dark marble, which is the usual alternative for this look. Seal it on installation and use a pH-neutral cleaner.
Yes. 8 lots of Negresco quartzite are in our Dandenong South gallery as at 10 October 2026. Stock on this page is generated from our live warehouse data, so what you see is what is on the racks.
We currently hold Negresco in honed and leather finishes. Finish availability changes with each shipment — the lots listed above are what is here now.
Slabs run up to roughly 3.4 × 2.0 metres, in 20mm thickness. Natural stone is cut block by block, so dimensions vary between lots — each lot above lists its own.
Yes, and we'd encourage it. Negresco is on display at 37–39 Gaine Road, Dandenong South, open Monday to Friday 7:30am–4:30pm and Saturday 8:45am–2pm. Every lot is photographed individually so you can shortlist online first, then view the slabs in person.
