About Crystallo

Origin

Quarried in Brazil. Crystallo is unusually crystalline even by quartzite standards, which is where both its name and its translucency come from.

Colour and character

A white to pale grey ground with a glassy, crystalline surface and a genuine softness to light — held against a lamp, a slab glows rather than blocking. Veining is generally fine and grey, sometimes warmed with gold and, in some lots, cooled with blue. The crystal structure is visible close up and is the main reason people choose it over a flatter white.

Where it works

Benchtops and islands, splashbacks and vanities, and — most distinctively — backlit panels, bar fronts and feature walls, where the translucency does something no other white stone in the range does. It is very hard, which makes it practical in a kitchen and slow to fabricate.

Care

Seal on installation and periodically thereafter. Crystallo is dense and comparatively forgiving, but it is still a natural stone: pH-neutral cleaner, no abrasive pads, and wipe spills rather than leaving them to sit.

Common questions

What makes Crystallo different from other white quartzites?

The crystal. Crystallo is markedly more crystalline than most quartzites, which gives it a glassy surface and real translucency. Most white quartzites read as opaque stone; Crystallo transmits light.

Can Crystallo be backlit?

Yes, and it is one of the few natural stones that genuinely rewards it. Translucency varies by lot and by thickness, so if backlighting is the plan, tell us — that slab is worth choosing against a light rather than on a rack.

Is Crystallo hard to fabricate?

It is hard stone, so cutting and polishing are slower and more demanding than for a marble and tooling wears faster. Use a stonemason who works with quartzite regularly.

Does Crystallo etch like marble?

It is far less reactive. Quartzite resists the acids that etch a marble benchtop — lemon juice, wine, some cleaning products — though it should still be sealed and spills should still be wiped.

Is Crystallo in stock in Melbourne?

Yes. 6 lots of Crystallo quartzite are in our Dandenong South gallery as at 10 October 2026. Stock on this page is generated from our live warehouse data, so what you see is what is on the racks.

What finishes does Crystallo come in?

We currently hold Crystallo in honed and polished and polished finishes. Finish availability changes with each shipment — the lots listed above are what is here now.

How big are Crystallo slabs?

Slabs run up to roughly 3.3 × 2.0 metres, in 20mm thickness. Natural stone is cut block by block, so dimensions vary between lots — each lot above lists its own.

Can I see Crystallo before I buy it?

Yes, and we'd encourage it. Crystallo is on display at 37–39 Gaine Road, Dandenong South, open Monday to Friday 7:30am–4:30pm and Saturday 8:45am–2pm. Every lot is photographed individually so you can shortlist online first, then view the slabs in person.
